For an Ableton Production Class, we had an open ended final project that we had to develop a concept for. For mine, I want to make a song with a “goal” in mind. I often find myself writing music with a theme or feeling and I wanted to try and emulate that.
I had the idea to make a song for a commercial. When searching through royalty free sites, you often can search via terms such as “uplifting” and “inspiring” and find songs to use as background music for a corporate video or short commercial. I wanted to try and make a song that fits these categories.
As the project developed, I ended up finding an Ikea commercial that I stripped the music from and replaced with original music. It became a fun experiment to see if I can match the tone of the commercial but can still fit a background quality that some of these songs need to fill in a commercial.

Raisin Radio Song
My second year in graduate school led me to taking a year of an independent study in composition. This class was focused on developing composition and listening skills and applying them to theatrical sound design. One of the big pieces I developed in the class was a song based on A Raisin in the Sun. My goal was to create a song we could hear in the world of the play and then could potentially be broken up into transitions if needed.
This is Kontakt instrument that I created using various wine and champagne glasses. I recorded the samples, edited them, and ordered them according to their pitch. From there, I loaded the samples into Kontakt according to their corresponding note the pianoI expanded out the notes using Kontakt and created an garden ambience using the instrument.
